The Dust…
Jesus once said to man, “You’re worrying about the speck in your friends eye, when you have a huge piece of dirt in your own!” Okay, maybe those weren’t his exact words…but, you get the idea. Jesus was speaking about how easy it is for us to judge someone else, when we have our own problems and short falls that can be (and often are) much bigger. Sometimes, I think why does anyone even care at all about the dust in OTHER people’s eyes? Should we care about that dust at all? Often times, when I see someone who is doing wrong, I think of this verse, and do nothing. It’s just a small piece of dust, right?
Some of you know how my garage has been going crazy! Yeah, I spoke a little awhile ago about how God has everything in Creation under his control, except MY GARAGE!! This thing never goes up and down when I want it to! Sometimes it stops half way, sometimes it goes back up after going all the way down. It’s a headache x100! While, I decide and get the ladder out and go up there and take a look. What do I know about garage door openers you may ask? Well, actually! Absolutely nothing! In fact, once I get up there, unless there’s an obvious big on off switch that CLEARLY should fix the problem….well, my hopes weren’t set very high. So, I get up there and everything is put together, no wires hanging out, no marks that a Squirel has been messin around. Nothing.. So, I check and make sure everything is tightly connected, and the door again…NOTHING!! That’s when I noticed it!!!
DUST…The opener had some dust all over the back of it. Hmmm. Let’s get rid of that, I thought. With a gust that could blow a house down, I blew as hard as I could. DUST EVERYWHERE! Then a green light lights up. Hmm? I blow a little bit more dust and then try the door again….
IT WORKS! And, guess what? It’s worked since. Dust, stopped by garage door from opening a 400lb garage door.
Made me think about dust…such a small amount of dust caused my huge garage to go hay wire! So, what about that dust in the eye? Jesus related the dust to sin in our lives. And, I began to think sin can cause damage in our lives just like the dust. Dust seems small. At the time, sin often does too…I’ll just watch a little bit of this movie, or have a liitle bit of this, or spend a little time doing… Never seems like a huge deal, right? Well, THINK OF THE DUST!!! Disobedience is a major deal and attacks the heart of our lifecord. Lifecord? Yeah, where we get life from. From Jesus and living in complete trust and faith in Him. This is the life…When I disobey God, I show a lack of faith, a “I know better” mentality. I cut myself off from the very thing that brings me life. And, then my life often goes haywire, just like the garage door…I get more judgemental..GARAGE DOOR UP…I get angry easier…GARAGE DOOR STUCK…I become a little more selfish…GARGAGE DOOR BROKEN…I finally realize, my sin, and confess my sin to Christ and return back to Him with all my heart..THE DUST IS BLOWN AWAY…EVERYTHING IS BACK IN CONTROL…God’s control…
When you are tempted this week..THINK OF THE DUST…Sin may seem small at the time, but can have major consequences in our life…
