Purpose
Oh the joy of High School! Yes, that unique 4 year period of time when life is so uncertain. High School is a time of transition. It’s a time when people begin to define who they are, what they stand for and what the object of their faith will be. It’s a time when individuals realize their individuality. In these years students stop simply accepting what they have been told and begin questioning what is real, what is authentic and what is true.
All of these characteristics communicate one thing, these young people are ready. They’re thirsty for acceptance, love, truth, compassion, direction, inspiration and thirsty for something worth living for.
This reality is exactly why WSM is a ministry whose VISION is to help the greatest number of High School students BELONG to Christ, GROW in Christ, and REACH the world for Christ.
The vision of WSM guides everything we do; our methods, programs, dreams and goals. As you learn more about each of these ministries, understand that all of them intentionally aim to accomplish this vision that God has placed on our hearts in a strategic way. Finally, also understand that WSM is a fluid ministry. We are a big fan of killing programs while they are still somewhat effective in an effort to come up with something better. Don’t be surprised if you see changes year to year - we hope that WSM will look totally different 5 years from now. Why? Because our culture rapidly changes. Our theology constantly remains but our methods have to be able to shift.
We also believe that students are capable of amazing things. God-sized things. We marvel and relish the stories of the many heros of faith in the Bible that were probably teenagers (Daniel, Joseph, even several of the disciples of Jesus). We love the idealism, the passion, the energy, and the freshness of their faith. We are committed to doing all we can to impact these precious souls and hearts so that the will be able to carry the light of this glorious gospel into their schools, their families, and their worlds. This is not a holding tank, a ‘no mans land’ or a babysitting service until they reach 18. Woodside Student Ministry exist to help students reach their full potential and strive after their God with a faith that is their own.
