Forgetting about God
Is it possible that God is right next to us, yet we forget He is there?
Is it possible for us to go to church or listen to Christian music, but not once think about Jesus?
I was reading a very interesting story that occurred about 2,000 years ago, and it seems like the people of those days struggled with this just as I do every day:
Matthew 14 - “ 22Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. 23After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, 24but the boat was already a considerable distance[a] from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it. 25During the fourth watch of the night Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.
For those of you who don’t know the behind-the-scenes of this story, Jesus and his disciples had just left from feeding 5,000 people all by themselves. I am sure they were all tired!
After they left this scene, the disciples were on a boat crossing the lake when a GHOST appeared to them on the water… They were terrified, until they realized that this GHOST was indeed Jesus walking on the water.
The reason I found this story interesting is because in a way, this describes how I live my life… And maybe you do too…
I can come from a Mission Trip (like the disciple’s did), or a great church service, or serving people on the streets, and go back into a rut where I am lacking faith in the God who is right next to me! As you can see these disciples had little faith and didn’t even recognize Jesus, after he had done many great things hours ago..
Do you feel like you might be forgetting about God in your everyday life?
Do you ever get back from a mission’s trip and go back into the same rut of life?
Do you ever consult God before you take a test or confront a friend? Besides, it was God who is with you, and it is God who created your brain and your mouth!
If not, I encourage you to open your eyes, because God is near…….
